After the qualifying sessions we made it till the semi-final which we had to run against Andy Carter. Unfortunately we couldn’t beat him.
We serviced the car for the last time and we packed the truck to go home.
We slept another short night and we left home. The first 2 hours we had multiple driver changes because everybody was still pretty tired. After the ferry everybody was more awake. But I was pretty much sleeping all the way.
Next weekend I will be going to support my sisters boyfriend at the Europokaal autocross in Loenen.
Today we did 2 qualifying runs. This was the first for me to experience top fuel dragster closely. I had seen them on TV but u can’t compare anything with this.
During the warm-up the night before on methanol the car was running and I thought it was pretty loud but it was not much more then the big block McLaren I’m used to at tachyon.
Today I got to see a engine running on nitro for the first time. They start up the engine with methanol and then they switch to nitro. Immediately u hear the engine making bigger bangs and u see the nitro coming out of the exhaust because nitro cars run really rich on fuel for multiple reasons.
Today we didn’t had to race. But there was still much to do. We needed to finish the setup of the portable workshop and we needed to start-up the car to check everything.
Just before diner we finalized this and now the dragster is almost ready for the first qualifying run.
Gerda prepared an amazing macaroni which I couldn’t stop eating.
Lex gave a toolbox meeting for the next day and everybody finished their work and went to bed.
Today I left to Sweden. At 7.30 in the morning 2 of the crew members picked me up. We drove all the way to the north of germany to get the ferry in Puttgarden. This 45min trip brings u to Denmark and from there u will enter Sweden.
When we arrived in Mantorp we started unloading the truck and we build-up the tent that we use as a mobile workshop.
After a day of driving more the 12 hours it was time to get some sleep.
After 2.5 months of training/preparing it is time to go to Sweden. This will be my first time working on the top fuel dragster during an event.
I’m really looking forward to go there because first of all I never been to Sweden and it will be a big challenge to service this car between the runs. Wednesday I leave with the mini-van together with the other mechanics.
More updates will probably be after the weekend because I don’t think I can get online over there.
Only a week after the TT (Moto GP) of Assen all the Dutch power pack race classes arrived on the track. Thursday all the mechanics arrived at the track to start building up the tent and to unload the 2 filled trucks.
Besides the GT4 Mustang the historic cars from Tachyon had to race this weekend. Michiel Campagne brought his new Corvette grand sport to a dutch track for the first time after he had raced it in England and France.
Up-comming weekend I’m going to Assen, the Netherlands. During the Formido midzomerraces (midsummerraces)(Formido is a DIY store) the Ford Mustang GT-4 will race and the historic cars that Tachyon Motorsport supports.
