After a week of working on my final project at CPM Europe I went to Tachyon Motorsport to set-up a car of a friend. He has been working on this Seat Ibiza for a few years and it is finally done. We went to Tachyon to use there scales to weight the car and to adjust the ride height in the right order. By putting the car on the scales u can see how the weight is distributed over the 4 wheels. In order to give the car maximum braking power and acceleration it is important to have the same load on the 2 front wheels. Without the driver the car was already 50-50 between left and right but with a driver inside it needed some small adjustments. When we where done with this I asked Maarten of Tachyon if I could help him with something. He was still working on a Ford V8 engine to rebuild in for the Dijon NK htgt race.
He asked me if I could pick up some coil over springs. It was a rush to pick them up on time and once we got them we needed to turn them on a lathe. Maarten asked if I could make 2 grooves for a circlip. I went to my cousin who has a lathe and asked him if we could do this at his place. First the springs needed to be removed from the damper which was a little bit tricky without the right tools. We managed to do this with the hydraulic press my cousin has in his workshop. After that we needed to discover how his lathe worked but after a few minutes we got it in the right gear. The only problem was that we couldn’t keep it turning. I’m still curious how u can make this lathe turn in the opposite direction and how u can make it spin without holding the start button. We returned to Tachyon with the coil over springs machined in the right way and I went home to get some sleep to be fit for tomorrow to work at Lex Joon Racing again.
